Umrah Vaccine - Umrah hajj Injection

Umrah Vaccine is a usually meningococcal Vaccine or injection. Apart from the meningococcal Vaccine, It is recommended to vaccinated with pneumococcal Vaccine and influenza Vaccine. Only meningococcal Vaccine is made mandatory by the Saudi government for Umrah visa. 

The pilgrims who come to Saudi Arabia can be from any country in the world. And Makkah and Madinah are very crowded. There are good chances of infectious diseases to outbreak. That is why this vaccination is made mandatory, and others are recommended. But all diseases come from Allah and Allah alone prevents it and cures it. So May Allah protect us from all diseases and give us good health. 

Umrah Vaccine Requirement 

Meningococcal vaccination is a mandatory requirement by the Saudi government for every visa issued by them. It is to prevent Meningococcal disease, a disease which is severe and can even cause death. It is an infectious disease. Therefore the Saudi government has made it mandatory. Children under the age of 2 are exempted from Meningococcal vaccination. You must be vaccinated not less than 10 days before the arrival date. Vaccination has a validity of only two years. Therefore, the duration between your departure date, and vaccination date shall not exceed two years.

Additional Umrah Vaccines

Apartment from the meningococcal Vaccine, it is recommended to have pneumococcal and influenza Vaccine. 

The pneumococcal Vaccine is to protect against pneumococcal infections such as meningitis and blood infections which are caused by bacteria. 

Influenza Vaccine is to protect against infection by influenza viruses. A new version of the influenza vaccine is developed twice a year, as the influenza virus is rapidly changing. It usually covers Infectious diseases like H1N1.

Umrah Vaccine requirement and its Validity

For Umrah visa purposes, Meningococcal vaccination is mandatory. A Meningococcal vaccination must take place 10 days before the arrival and not more than two years before the intended departure date. The vaccination must be Recorded and validated by an authorized body and signed by an authorized person. The authorized body can be a hospital or clinic approved by the ministry of health of that country. The authorized person shall be a physician.

Umrah Vaccine for babies

Children below 2 years old do not require Vaccine. So babies and toddlers below the age of two do not need a vaccine. 

Meningococcal Vaccine should not be given any child below the age of 2.

However, it is recommended for the children to be vaccinated with the pneumococcal Vaccine.

Umrah Vaccine for Pregnant woman and breastfeeding woman

Meningococcal Vaccine is considered safe for pregnant ladies. According to mothertobaby.com, the Vaccine has a low risk of harmful effect during pregnancy. Please consult a doctor (physician) before taking the injection.

Pneumococcal Vaccine is also safe for breastfeeding mother. But the Vaccine not thoroughly studied on the pregnant woman yet.

Vaccine during other medical condition

Anyone who is allergic to any component must let the doctor (Physician)know before the injection. It is ok to get vaccinated when you have a mild illness such as cold or congestion. But if you are moderately or severely ill, you must consult the physician before the jab. 

If you ever diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome, you must consult the doctor before getting the vaccination.

Is Umrah Vaccine an Live Vaccine?

Meningococcal and pneumococcal vaccines are not Live, attenuated vaccines. They don't belong to the inactivated Vaccines neither.

Side effects of Umrah Vaccine 

Though it's rare, A meningococcal Vaccine can cause a severe allergic reaction from few minutes to few hours. Few people had experienced redness or mild pain in the place where it was injected. But it's reported it will go away less than 48 hours.

You may face some mild side effects after pneumococcal shot as well. But it should not last more than 48 hours. 

The common side for both of the vaccine can be one or few of the following.

  • redness, pain, or swelling at the site of the shot
  • mild fever
  • chills
  • headache
  • drowsiness or tiredness
  • decreased appetite
  • irritability

Cost of Umrah vaccination

Price of the Meningococcal vaccine is usually around US$ 35. If you are planning to take Meningococcal, Pneumococcal and influenza vaccines, it may cost you around US$ 110.
